SPLENDOR IN MY ARSE

Had a fucking wicked time at Splendor in the Grass last weekend.

We bailed on the Friday at about lunch time for the drive to Byron Bay hoping to beat all the Saturday traffic. About 5 hours later we made it to Byron Bay - Turns out our stop at the Gold Coast and general fucking around meant that we got caught in peek hour traffic at Coolangatta and bad traffic jams due to road works about half way between the coast and byron.


Check out the cool tent/cabin thingo that became our home for a few days.


At Splendor, it was really muddy due to rain... These muther fuckers were VERY clean.


I ran into Amber B of ABCK fame - I was stoked.. She is rad.

All in all Splendor was dope! Mos Def was incredible - Presets, DJ Shadow, The Vines, Decoder Ring all made my weekend good. So did the excessive amounts of alcohol in my system.

So the conference went for two days. Highlights on the Friday were ABCK and Anyhow. Kate? from Dumbo Feather Magazine (above) was really positive and cool. Paul Pope was kick arse too.

Day Two at Semi P, Beci Orpin was really cool. I love her wood cuts (displayed above). Patrick Hoelck was inspiring, I love his photos so much. Meeting him was a treat too. Josh Davis was off the fucking hook; such an inspiring dude.

So we arrived back in Brisbane Sunday evening and headed straight to the Buck 65 gig at The Rev. We were all tired and I was in a fucking bad mood but Buck put on a hell of a show and it was just what I needed... Claire, who joined him on stage for a few tracks, was amazing.


Last night was Death Before Dishonour Staff meeting... We get drunk...


I repeat, we get drunk.

So I got back from sydney last night, the others got back sunday in time for the BUCK65 set. Shit where do I start about sydney... I guess I'll start at the beginning..

Thursday

4am wake ups to pick up Birch&Museli to get to the airpot thanx to some reckless driving by Dyms.

8am Beers on the Plane (Beat my personal record).

9ish touch down in sydney and basically walked non-stop all night till the curvy launch, which was graced by the amazing Elean Mullaly =P. After which dinner with ABCK was shared. And Joel and I proceeded to hook up with Des to drink non-stop.

Friday

8am calls from Lukish for Joel and I to get our asses to the conference for Tickets.

10am Conference starts, was really good, although being Hungover sure took its toll. and I had a nice quiet one the next night.

Saturday

Second Day of Semi Permanent, Josh Davis was off the hook, funny and really inspiring. Went to the After party and Chilled with peeps and caused trouble... lost my digicam which I was pretty fucked off about. And the night ended with a huge brawl on oxford street where I got to see a dude die *thumbs down*. Pretty shocked so just headed back to the apartment. 4 to one room was interesting.

Sunday

Pretty relaxed day, breakfast and some shopping. The homies left for home and I got held up at knife point by a junkie. "Gimme ya wallet cunt" *BOUNCE*. I've never run that fast. So I called up some friends from North Sydney and crashed in the suburbs.

Got home last night and Im about to move out, looking at Regatta Riverside, but deals must be done.

Aight I hate typing. Im sure there will be pics, Dyms got heaps, I might pick them up and update myself.

Good time in sydney? I've had better.. Word to homies and everyone who hooked us up.

A HECTIC WEEK OF UPS AND DOWNS

Wow, crazy week. Super good times and super bad times too.


Friday night was the Death Before Dishonour/ Underoath CD launch party at Club 299. I had earlier that day found out about my homie Jeeps being in a coma so I didnt really feel like partying, but it was my party so I had to go. Im glad I went, it ended up being a fun night - Im sure Jeeps would have wanted me to go "Party Most", thats his steez anyways.


Maria, Joel and Kristoff. I helped Maria and Trad DJ for a bit. It was fun.


Nina and Yimmy. Yimmy was out of control all night. He was blind before I even got there. He thought that he was seriously fired the next day.


Lochlan, Yoel and Lulu. Lochlan kept telling me to play some real metal... Cheeky little bugger.


Saturday night I drove to the Gold Coast to return the ABCK laptop that they lent us to finish Death Before Dishonour after our computer crash. They hooked me up with this sweet GC ABCKxVONZIPPER tee. They got them printed for Semi Permanent.


They also laced me with their new SPYMASTER zine. Its sick! Joel got the cover, he was stoked. I love what they did with the photo.

Monday was my birthday. I didnt feel like having a big celebration so I hooked up with Joel and Chris for a few drinks in the valley (Nina and Lulu joined us. Elzee came later). The arvo started off pretty somber but somehow due to jugs of bourbon it ended up being a crazy night of bad knuckle tattoos and tagging. My buddy Jeeps is in a coma. Seeing him laying there with tubes coming out of his head was one of the hardest moments of my life. It doesn’t seem real. I stand in silence. I am struggling to understand the frailty of life. Please say a prayer for him, for some reason I am unable.
